Nana Akosua Frimpomaa, the presidential candidate for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), is calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Mrs. Jean Mensa, to ensure fairness and stop favoritism in the electoral process.
During a peace pact meeting with the EC, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa expressed disappointment that she was denied the opportunity to deliver her speech, while candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and National Democratic Congress (NDC) were allowed to speak. She emphasized that this uneven treatment undermines the principles of fairness and equality.
Nana Akosua Frimpomaa recalled that during the 2012 peace pact, all candidates were given equal opportunities to address the gathering, and the event was peaceful. She questioned why the EC, under Mrs. Jean Mensa’s leadership, is deviating from this precedent, potentially creating an unfair advantage for some candidates.
Mrs. Jean Mensa, a renowned Ghanaian lawyer and chairperson of the EC since 2018, has been instrumental in overseeing Ghana’s electoral processes.¹ However, Nana Akosua Frimpomaa’s concerns highlight the need for the EC to maintain transparency, fairness, and equal treatment of all candidates to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
