Jurgen Klopp’s shock departure reportedly left some of Liverpool’s staff in tears, after the announcement on Friday which was the German’s idea.
According to The Atheltic, it was the manager’s own decision to make a video and publicly announce his departure. He wanted to ensure that staff, players, and supporters learned about it directly from him and kept utmost secrecy to avoid any leaks to the media. The manager prioritised providing clarity to his inner circle and their families about his future so that they could plan accordingly.
Alongside Klopp, assistants Pep Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, as well as first-team development coach Vitor Matos, will also be leaving Liverpool. The report claimed that the response from both staff and players was one of complete shock, with only a select few being aware of the decision beforehand. The unexpected nature of the announcement led to emotional scenes among members of the staff and some even could not hold back their tears.
Just like the staff and players, the fans were also gutted to know that Klopp would be leaving the club in the summer. Even Liverpool legend Jammie Carragher thought that the video was a hoax or a cruel joke.
Klopp will lead his troops when they take on Norwich City in the FA Cup on Sunday, January 28. The 56-year-old will look to finish his journey on a high as Liverpool are alive in four competitions and could realistically win the quadruple in May if they continue their current form.
