Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, visited victims of the violent clash between Anglogold security and small-scale miners in Obuasi. The visit took place on Monday at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Obuasi Government Hospital, where the injured are receiving treatment.
Dr. Amoakohene assured the victims that the government has initiated an immediate investigation into the matter. Security agencies have been directed to restore peace in the community and prevent such incidents from happening again.
The National Chairman of the Ghana Small-Scale Miners Association, Mr. Sampson Kofi Wiredu, emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to hold those responsible accountable. He stressed that the government must ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.
This development comes amidst concerns about the safety and well-being of small-scale miners in the region. The government’s prompt response and commitment to investigating the incident are seen as positive steps towards addressing the issue.
