Executive Member of the Ghana Football Association and Chief Executive Officer of Aduana Stars, Albert Commey believes that the FA is not solely responsible for the lack of sponsorship for the Premier League.
After week 17 of the Ghana Premier League, the FA have not being able to secure a sponsorship for the league but according to the Public Relations Officer for the FA, Sannie Darra has revealed that the FA is doing anything possible to get sponsorship. Club administrators and chairmen have constituently threatened to pull out of the league if there is no sponsorship for the Premier league and the latest person who has threatened the FA is the owner of Techiman City, Charles Kwadwo Ntim.
Speaking on the Ultimate Sports on Asempa FM, he said, “There is no doubt that club are suffering because it is not easy to run football in Ghana but I don’t agree with people pulling out of the league will be the solution to what the other clubs are going through.
“I don’t agree that we don’t have sponsorship because it is the title that pulled out of the league because what Super Sports is given us was even bigger than what the title sponsor was giving us. It is not the sponsorship money that we use to run the clubs because the various clubs are limited liability so I don’t agree with the way some people has taken the whole issue. There are even procedures to go through if you want to pull out of the league and if you don’t follow that procedures it will have a negative effect on the league.
He continued, “We know how club administrators are suffering and there is no doubt about that and even the individual clubs, before you get sponsorship it is about whom you know and the relationship you have with that particular company.
“I know the FA has taken steps and next year there is a company that is ready to sponsor the league but the issue is that they want the season to end before they start sponsoring the league next season but in all, the ultimate responsibility to get a sponsorship for the league lies on the clubs and not the FA.” He added.
Aduana Stars play Accra Hearts of Oak at the Accra Sports Stadium in the week 18 fixtures of the Ghana Premier League. Quizzed if they will triumph over the Phobian club, he said, “Every match is difficult to play in the league and this is against Accra Hearts of Oak and sometimes playing teams like Edubiase who have not find their rhythm in league is difficult to play against them but I must say that we are favorite to win the league.” Commey concluded.
He also paid tribute to the former GFA boss Ben Koufie and advised that we should learn his leadership skills.
